Answering Questions about “Go Now” Missions Weekend
This summer, 250 students from across Texas will leave for assignments worldwide. Their peers will help pay their way. But to determine who is ready for that responsibility and where they fit best, these students come to Midlothian for a weekend of challenge, interviews, group exercises, and worship.
We provide space and host homes for this experience, which sounds overwhelming to many. So let me fill in the details. (See Host Home Flyer)
These are MOTIVATED followers of Jesus who will be coming. 10-12 students will be housed in a home, sleeping on the floor. The only “beds” we hope for is a couch or bed for each of the adult sponsors who lead campus ministries. The rest bring their sleeping bags and park on the floor. They arrive at the host homes at 9:00 pm on Friday night and we provide snacks before they have their first group meeting. The adult sponsors oversee their time.
The next morning, they begin with a quick breakfast (simple–remember these are college students who usually don’t eat breakfast!) They will meet all morning in our homes, then we’ll give them a light lunch and they are on their way to the church campus for the rest of the day. They’ll visit a missions fair, do some training, gather for worship again, and will return to host homes around 9:00 pm. Again, they’ll meet and we just provide snacks.
Sunday morning, they straighten up the house and leave for the church by 7:30 am, worship at the student center and are on the road back to their campuses by 9:00 am.
So if you are worried about space–these are student missionaries and they expect to “rough it” at your home. They will have big meals on the church campus on Friday and Saturday. They will only be in your homes after 9:00 pm on Friday, Saturday morning until 1:00 pm, and back again that night at 9:00 pm.
Will you invest your hospitality in these students? It’s your chance to see some great-hearted, mission-minded students and hear about what God is up to in their lives.
