Many of us have never spent time with someone we might call a “missionary.” That was my case too. Then one night, I wound up hosting a missionary from Japan for dinner, and that led to a movie, which then led to a late-night coffee conversation. It changed my life. My view of missions, missionaries, and God’s love for the WHOLE world took on new clarity and urgency. It continues to mark my heart.

On February 20, college students from across Texas will arrive on our church campus for “GoNow Missions Discovery Weekend.” These students have been interviewed, screened, and selected from their individual university campuses and sent here to be interviewed and trained for summer mission assignments. They will be passionate, Gospel-centered, and eager to serve Christ wherever they are assigned. And on that Sunday morning, they will join our 8:30 am worship service in the Family Room for their last time together before they find out where (or if) they will be sent.

42 years ago, my wife and I were two of those students, and the journey we experienced that summer shaped us individually, shaped our marriage, and shaped our view of Christ.

We still need several homes for hosting groups of 10 students and two Baptist Student Ministry staff members for that weekend. We will get to “touch our world” with our hospitality. We provide floor space for sleeping, a TV to use for some of their training, a lunch, some snacks, and a bed or couch for the staff to sleep in. They will be on our campus training Friday night and Saturday afternoon and evening, but they need lodging.
