Answering the Call When it Guarantees Heartbreak
More than ten years ago my family and I had the opportunity to go on a mission trip to a children’s home in South Texas. That trip was God’s way of introducing us to the world of opportunities to serve children from hard places. We took a huge leap of faith and a deep dive into learning what it means to love and support families during one of the hardest times in their lives.
That trip led us into the world of foster care, something we knew nothing about! The idea of becoming a foster family was scary, filled with unknowns and things out of our control. We did know that being faithful to answer that call from the Lord would ultimately end in heartbreak over and over again.
While our journey has been incredibly challenging, it has also been one of the most rewarding things we’ve ever given our hearts!
1 Peter 4:10 reads Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
When we say “yes” to God’s call, we say “yes” to His plan and purpose and acknowledge our trust in Him.
Can you recall a time you took a leap of faith? Can you remember when you sincerely sought His calling for your life? If it’s been a while, let me urge you to:
- Seek Him daily.
- Trust in Him.
- Ask Him to reveal His will for the season you are in.
- Pray for courage to act on your calling so that you can bring glory to Him, no matter the cost.
Jeremiah 17 7-8 reminds us, “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
Make space in your life for the Holy Spirit to move you into uncomfortable places! As you abide in Him, you will bear fruit you never imagined!
