Foundations of Trusting the Bible

Wednesday nights this fall are going to be great opportunities for stretching the soul! Over the next two weeks, we will be distributing our fall 2026 guide for group life, and it includes our Wednesday groups. Support groups like GriefShare & DivorceCare address some of our most prevalent hurts. English as a Second Language (ESL) will equip people to thrive in their new home here in Midlothian. Additionally, “Stand to Reason” will focus on Apologetics (your ability to deal with challenges to faith, and “Foundation,” which will focus on how the Bible came to be, how we can trust it, and why we find so many different translations.

We also have a couple of Women’s groups who will meet together on Wednesday nights, as well as a women’s Bible study that will meet on Wednesday morning. And year-round, we host “Explorers” in the chapel on Wednesday mornings at 10.

Foundation

When I was younger, I was taught to trust the Bible, but I was given no rationale, defense, or reason. The Bible just “was.” So in my collegiate years, I had tons of questions. My college roommates were brilliant men, and they pointed me toward resources that would help to align my HEAD with my HEART (intellect with spiritual desire). It helped me tremendously, and in the years since, I have leaned on that material to help people find answers for their questions.

On August 19, I’ll be leading a group in the Chapel on Wednesday nights, and that group will look at how we got the biblical documents in the first place, how God has spoken in history, and how the Bible supersedes every other resource of faith that we might trust. We’ll delve into those issues and deal with your questions over those 6 weeks.

As a young man, I needed a firm “foundation” for my trust. It will be my aim to give that same foundation to all who are part of that group on Wednesday nights.
