How God Made You is How God USES You

Conversations are like fertile soil. Growth and new life are always possible. I was talking with a good friend who has rich experience in missions and our world. We started talking about strategy and how people could be involved in God’s mission for His world. And he said something I’ve believed and heard, but hearing him say it again was refreshing.

“People often think they have to put aside their strengths and gifts to serve the Lord, so doctors go and build homes, construction guys help with kids’ camp, and teachers try to provide medical care. They forget that how God made you is how God USES you.” You don’t become something you’re not; you offer what you DO have, who you ARE, what your GIFTS are to God’s purposes. I love the outdoors, fishing, water, and adrenaline sports–so I feel very at home with men who have those interests and love helping them understand the Gospel in those terms. When I went fly fishing with a guide who had cancer, it was natural to have conversations about the grief of loss because we spoke the same “language.”

God gifted you and planted you in places for a reason. Will you ask Him to show you ways to connect through your gifts, place, personality, and interests to point people to Jesus?
