How Much Does It Take?

I’m thinking about people who need Jesus, and I wonder, “How much does it take to start that journey with Jesus?” I have plenty of theology in my tank, have read plenty of helpful books on leading people toward Jesus, but this week I read one testimony that made me ask this question.

Jan Karon, bestselling author of 17 “Mitford” books, was interviewed by Christianity Today, which included a link to papers archived at the University of Virginia. In those papers was a letter she wrote, and it included her testimony. She knew some biblical facts and had some exposure to church in her childhood, but a day came when she really needed it. And she called out to Jesus very simply:

I just came to the end of myself…, purely by the Grace of God, invited Jesus into my heart. I was frightened and amazed. The fear was of surrender. The amazement was that I could do it. I asked the Lord to be very kind, very tender, and gentle with me.

Now, years later, she claims her life has changed completely. As I thought about it, I mused: “It doesn’t take a Ph.D. to know Jesus. It’s much more about the heart than having all the right information. Every person who responded to Jesus in the Gospels did so without having all the answers. What they did have was HIM.” So how much does it take?

A willing heart. . .

A ready Jesus. . .

And a surrender of that heart to that Jesus.

THAT’s what we will offer people on Easter Sunday… so that another life can be completely changed!
