Responding to Need
A category five hurricane has decimated Jamaica and Cuba, leaving people homeless in great numbers. The pictures of the damage are a bit overwhelming. The needs are so great that many are wondering how to help.
At the same time, our current government shutdown means that our neighbors, our military, and many of the folks we know are wondering how to make it without a paycheck, or how to make it now that they’re looking at their 2nd or 3rd missed paycheck. How do they feed their families?
Today, I received this from our Texas Baptist community:
“We are also grateful for Texans on Mission, the disaster relief ministry of Texas Baptists, who are prepared to provide meals and disaster relief in Jamaica in the days ahead, and also in Cuba through a collaboration with North Carolina. Texas Baptists is sending an initial $100,000 grant to support feeding efforts in the Caribbean in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.”
So if you want to step into this pain, you can do that by following these links to make funds available for the immediate action where the pain is greatest, or if you want to help with food and grocery assistance locally, you can donate to Manna House locally.
What we can ALL do is intercede for those who are struggling in the midst of recovery and uncertainty. And we can open our resources to those who have none right now.
