Serving Children — With Your Voting

I have consistently avoided focusing our church on politics through the years. What I do want to do is inform people of issues and ensure that we have accurate information before we use the precious opportunity of free elections. In a few days, we will have an opportunity to vote on a variety of candidates and issues, and one of those issues is unknown to most voters in our community, yet it addresses our treasure—our children.

In this election, voters will see a decision on the ballot that will affect every child who attends our local schools. In fact, across our state, different school districts are considering similar measures to provide funding for local school children. The state has not adjusted funding since 2019, so school boards across the state are facing a 28% inflation of costs without a change in the sources of funds. But in a few days, you will have an opportunity to affect that. Don’t go to the polls without information. You will see a referendum on the ballot. I simply want you to know what it’s about so you can make an informed decision.

The Midlothian ISD website includes a presentation I think every person in our community should see. It explains this referendum very well. It will provide answers to questions, and I hope you will review it carefully. Then, you go to the polls and vote your conscience. And while you’re at it, do the same research on candidates and other issues. Then, pray about how to express your beliefs and values when voting. It’s a privilege that is squandered by millions of people every year, while around the world, other believers pray to have that opportunity in their own cultures.
