Hosting the WORLD in Your Own Home: GoNow Missions

My most impactful experience in college was being part of the Baptist Student Ministry. I was mentored, challenged, and discipled. I was also given a bigger picture of God’s concern for the people of the world. I started seeing my summer breaks differently. I started seeing God’s call on my life differently. Every year, our church joins hundreds of other churches in staffing Baptist Student Ministry outposts on college and university campuses across Texas.

Right now, hundreds of students have given their hearts to Christ and are interviewing for the possibility of serving around the world next summer. They are evaluated on their maturity, their grasp of the Gospel, and their understanding of the Great Commission. Out of all of those students, about 250 will be invited to take a bigger step on February 21-23 for a weekend we will host here called “Discovery Weekend.” We will dedicate our entire church campus for that weekend, hosting those students, Baptist Student Ministry staff, and a host of parents who want to know what that summer mission will involve.

We need 25 homes for hosting groups of 10-12 students & staff for Friday night through early Sunday morning. They will come to spend the night, spend Saturday morning in our homes, and then return to the FBC campus Saturday afternoon & evening. They will return to host homes to spend the night and leave early Sunday morning. (Click for Details)

Kelly and I will host because we believe it’s a way to host the world in our own home! These students are on their best behavior; they’re praying hard, listening intently, and hoping to be assigned to serve somewhere in ministry for the summer. Teams spread throughout the USA, Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, and Australia every summer. Every summer, the placements change, but what is common is this:

  • They will carry the Gospel to people in need.
  • They will be stretched, and many will begin a lifelong ministry in other cultures.
  • They will need OUR church to host them for this crucial preparation weekend.

Will you open your home to them? They sleep on the floor. They have adult supervision. They are the best hearts that our university system sees. And they will be sent out in a few months to share GOOD NEWS with a world that needs to experience Christ.

Will you pray for them? Will you help HOST them? To volunteer to HOST, call or email Leigh Milner or click this link to host the world in your own home February 21-23.
