Justice for Ya’ll–Trusting God When Life Doesn’t Seem Fair

If you have ever wondered why some good guys DON’T win, this new series is for you! For some reason, most of us were trained to think a certain way about the difficulty and how to handle it as followers of Jesus. We narrow the available bandwidth of emotion, and if we don’t fit that bandwidth, we’re not sure what to do with that.

Years ago, I stumbled upon a Psalm that I felt had been written in my own journal. It was so profound for me that I began a 30-year-long meditation on it. (Sounds weird, but it has been medicinal for my soul!) The more I journaled, the more I began to organize it into “chapters” of thought until I eventually outlined a book! And those chapters have taken on more length, thought, and development through the years.

So, starting on January 12, I’m bringing that to our church. It’s the kind of conversation I think everyone needs to experience, and I hope you plan to be part of it.

We all hunger for life to be “fair,” and even while we repeat The Lion King‘s “Scar” character’s statement (“Life’s not fair. . .”), we still rail against it and wish it to be untrue. Especially for people of faith, we have this expectation that if we are righteous enough, worship passionately enough, operate ethically enough, and believe enough, THEN God rewards us. So, if we’re not rewarded appropriately, it doesn’t feel fair.

And that feeling is mirrored in the Psalms. So, what do we do with that? How do we trust God and honor God when life doesn’t seem fair?

Join me on January 12 for our brand new series, Justice for Ya’ll–When Life Isn’t Fair. We’ll wrestle with this together!
